MTV has announced the nominees for its MTV Movie Awards (which exist somewhere on the kudos-time continuum between the Oscars and the Crest Whitestrips Style Awards). Pirates of the Carribbean led all movies with six nominations, while X2: X-Men United and 50 First Dates nabbed four apiece.

Most surprising was Freddie Prinze Jr's Best Male Performance snub for Scooby Doo 2. In what can only be seen as a nod to the changing social climate in the Post-Titty Era, Prinze's spot was scooped up by cinematic Messiah Jim Caviezel for his onscreen feat of endurance in The Passion of the Christ. Expect to see one of those cute parody films where the monkeys stand in for actors, and watch as one lucky chimp gets the crap kicked out of him by Roman soldiers and ultimately crucified. MTV's so edgy that way.
