Perhaps you’ve heard: Kristin Cavallari is expecting. (A lot from life in general, apparently, and also a baby.) The fledgling memoirist is, by my count, about 115 days into her pregnancy, which means that a baby shower must be on the horizon. What will this party entail? A reality show that she would absolutely not do again? If history’s any indication, then yes.

In 2012, a then-unwed but knocked up Kristin served as a guest host on an episode of Cupcake Wars, a Food Network reality competition show that got canceled a year later. The episode was centered on Kristin’s upcoming baby shower: four cupcake bakers from across the country competed to serve cupcakes at it (and win $10,000).

If, like me, you lead a meaningless life punctuated only by the minor accomplishments of a mid-aughts reality TV star, you can watch the episode here, but I don’t recommend it. There are three whole rounds in a cupcake war! It goes on longer than Vietnam.

To give you a sense of the flavor Kristin added to the episode, here are some things she said on camera:

  • “Well, peanut butter was the only thing that I could taste, but I do like peanut butter, so I liked the cupcake.”
  • “I thought your theme was really creative.”
  • “Cupcakes with cream cheese frosting has been one of my cravings during my pregnancy, so I loved it.”

In the end—after the host said (I swear to God) “Bakers, today has been a tough series of challenges to honor Kristin Cavallari’s baby shower”—Cheryl Burger, the owner of Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe in Chester Township, New Jersey, was crowned the winner.

Burger told NJ.com after the episode aired that she owed her win to Kristin: “This was her show. I don’t know how much influence she had. But since it’s her party, I’m sure she called the shots.” She added that Kristin was “a sweetheart, the nicest girl you’ll meet.”
