CBS' Christmas Gift To You Is Two I Love Lucy Episodes In Color

After years of stealing all the presents from the children of Whoville (or, well, carriage fees from Time Warner Cable and storylines from The Good Wife), network television Grinch CBS' heart is growing, just in time for the holiday season. The network will be airing two back-to-back episodes of I Love Lucy, remastered in "vintage" color as an appropriately titled "I Love Lucy Christmas Special."

The two episodes CBS is airing are the rarely seen "Christmas Episode," a clip show from season 6 that CBS aired in color during a 1990 re-broadcast, and the wildly popular grape stomping debacle from season 5's "Lucy's Italian Movie."

Proving that Les Moonves' heart really has grown three sizes larger, CBS will air the one-hour special on December 20th as a full-hour episode, with only one one title sequence and one set of credits.

Does anyone else think Ricky Ricardo was a complete asshole? I know it was a different time, but when I watched these reruns growing up, I just thought he was the biggest dick ever. Even today when I see his image, I want to punch his throat.

Not nearly as abusive a relationship as Darrin was to Samantha on Bewitched. Her subservance to his will (that whole "Sam, I strictly forbid you to use your powers!" thing) pisses me off so much.

Now I get that she shouldnt throw around her powers in public, to keep them secret - but forbidding their use in the privacy of their own home? Teaching their kids that kids that having magical powers was bad? He hated his wife's culture, he hated her family and friends to the point where he didn't want them around even when he wasn't.

She might have been antagonistic, but Endora frequently called Darrin out on his - well, for lack of a better word - bigotry. Using the basic definition, one might argue that he was indeed a bigot.

Good points, but Samantha was such a strong character that Darren just always seemed to be weak by comparison.

This is not the same class of colorization that Ted Turner pushed on us back in the 80s\90s. (remember pink t-rex from "King Kong?")

Some of the newly colorized sci-fi films are pretty good. Ray Harryhausen supervised the color remaster of a few of his films and some others. "Things to Come" looks great in color. They've gone out of their way to emulate the color processes of the day, and most discs will come with both versions.

Yes, If you can you need to watch it...I haven't seen the Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre (Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht). I wish somebody would show that movie, with Klaus Kinski it should be a really good late night movie.

The real set colors were never as bright and colorful as the "colorized" versions would want them to be. The original sets were in shades of beige, tan and taupe. Even in the Connecticut years were fairly subdued. http://www.vintag.es/2013/04/rare-c…

None of them were. The Andy Griffith Show sets were all painted a sort of olive green. That color apparently looks better in black and white.

Now, a new show from the 1960s that was in color from the get-go, like Star Trek, had everything in the brightest colors possible, from the sets themselves to the accent lighting to the costumes. That's why the uniforms were red, blue, and gold - what kind of modern military organization goes around dressed like that?

it makes sense that the real colors are off. it's whatever made it look good in greyscale.
