Damon Albarn Carried Off Stage After Refusing to End Five Hour Set
Blur frontman/voice of one of the Gorillaz Damon Albarn played a marathon five-hour set at Africa Express at the Roskilde Music Festival in Denmark on Saturday, and yet he still wanted more. Typical rock star excess.
Around 4 am, he started getting word that he was violating the venue’s curfew, but refused to leave the stage, to the audience’s apparent delight. After launching into the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” security made the decision for him. They chose the latter, and when Albarn still wouldn’t leave, a guard picked him up and carried him off.
If you gotta go out, go out like this: waving your hands and making silly faces, all while being carried by a much bigger man as though you are just a wee lad.
Note that if Gawker writer Kelly Conaboy were there, she would have picked up Albarn and carried him off the stage before he even got a chance to sing one note. Kelly doesn’t play around.
