Ex-Pussy Riot Members To Appear on House of Cards For Whatever Reason
Hollywood eventually consumes everything important. Next up are Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina–formerly of Pussy Riot but still the most visible faces of the Russian feminist punk collective—who, according to Baltimore City Paper, will appear on the third season of House of Cards.
Two sources told writer Baynard Woods that the two were recently filming something for the show on its set in Baltimore.
"Nadezhda and Maria from Pussy Riot were on set, and are in season 3 of HoC," a staffer told City Paper in a message on the condition of anonymity.
What hasn't yet leaked is the exact nature of the roles Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina will be playing on the show. Given the nature of their activism it would be surprising if they were playing fictional characters, though if they were playing themselves it would give House of Cards a faint whiff of the rotten public event-shoehorning that helped make The Newsroom so distasteful.
But with that having been said, if the duo played themselves and were murdered by Frank Underwood it might help push House of Cards to reach the full Law and Order: SVU potential it flirted with for some of its second season.
