Hartford's Mayor Is So Over Dave Chappelle's Whining
Dave Chappelle should quit whining, do his job and try some yoga. #HartfordHasIt P.E.S.

Mayor Pedro Segarra is an asshat for criticizing a professional who's job was being interfered with by similar asshats.
His comment might have something more to do with Chappelle saying that he hopes Hartford is bombed with a nuclear weapon.
He's a comedian. He said "FUCK YO COUCH!!!" These are things people say to make people laugh about a place they have a bad experience.
Pretending to be Rick James in a skit while saying "Fuck yo couch" and telling the press that you hope that North Korea drops an atomic bomb on a city are two slightly different "jokes".
Exactly what realistic scenario is any country on this planet going to drop an atomic bomb on HARTFORD? He was blowing off steam about a place where people were assholes! Give me a break dude, I can think of a hundred places I wouldn't mind getting "nuked".
Mayor asshat should think about ways to encourage people to help his towns economy instead of antagonizing people who are contributing to it.
Regardless of Mayor Segarra's race or ethnicity, him telling a black entertainer to shut up and entertain what Mr. Chappelle characterized as an audience of mainly white, drunk men might be viewed as...problematic. The mayor should probably tread lightly.
Nice try, but I really don't think there's a racial component to this one.
Swing and a miss....strike one troll.
Hartford is one of the poorest handful of municipalities in the country and a majority minority city.
Edit: Sorry intended that for Elbow73.
Not sure if I agree. I think Mr. Chappelle would agree either. Just because there isn't a Klansman in your yard burning a cross, doesn't mean that White privilege is alive and well and pervasive in everyday culture.
I love Dave Chappelle's comedy.
But knowing that one asshole in the audience can shut down his show is enough to ensure that I would never buy a ticket to one of his performances.
If that matters to him, he should probably adjust his approach a little.
If that doesn't matter to him, he should probably quit the business or play smaller venues or enforce heckler bans or STFU. Or not. It really doesn't matter to me at this point.
But it wasn't just one person. It was a bunch of drunken jerks screaming out "I'm Rick James Bitch" and messing up the flow of his performance to the point that he couldn't perform. What kind of approach would you suggest for a drunken idiots? He is up there to do his job. Not to babysit grown children.
I completely agree with what you've said. I don't blame him for what happened, but as a potential customer, I do have to hold him responsible for it when it comes to my future purchasing decisions.
My approaches for crowd control would be:
1. Don't play a venue that seats 30,000 people. Period. Shrink it down.
2. Raise the ticket prices a bit.
3. Negotiate for venue personnel that will vigorously expel hecklers, and warn the audience in advance about it.
4. (optional) Verbally destroy the hecklers from onstage. Many comedians do this, but this is an artistic decision, so it's entirely up to him.
He had successful evenings at other similar-sized venues on this tour. People were just being dickish.
From what I've seen of his standup, Dave does not really play with the audience much, and it may not be in his nature to take people down like some comedians do (I'm not a comedian, but I definitely don't have a "tell somebody off" gene; I usually don't curse at people or try to destroy them, even on line). Some comedians are good at it, but that may not be in his repertoire. And really, it shouldn't have to be. People should know how to behave in public.
Yeah. It's unfortunate that he's being put in this position, and I wish people would just behave themselves.
But then, I rarely attend live concerts because I hate standing for hours at a time at a music performance. If this is how he wants to keep doing shows, then I suppose I'm just not his target audience anymore, and that's a perfectly acceptable decision for him to make. But he should be aware that he's dividing his audience if he continues performing in the same manner after effectively stiffing 30,000 people because of a comparatively few bad apples.
Outside of the initial event, has Chappelle even said much more about it since? I haven't seen anything.
Oh. found it.
I read that earlier today.
Kind of a dick move on his part.
Sounds about right to me... Fuck Hartford.
