Hugh Jackman: Earth's Weakest Man?
Hugh Jackman, actor who often plays Wolverine, recently bragged on social media that he’d just joined the “1,000-pound club” at his gym. Big whoop, Hugh Jackman.
“The 1,000-pound club,” you’re thinking. “That sounds impressive! Does that mean he lifted 1,000 pounds at once? Oh my god. 1,000 pounds?! Is that—I mean, I don’t mean to reveal myself as a slovenly know-nothing, but is that even possible? That sounds like a lot! Wow! I mean, I know that he’s Wolver—” ugh, shut up! No! It does not mean that he lifted 1,000 pounds at once.
To get into his gym’s 1000-pound club, Jackman squatted 335 pounds, benched 235 pounds and deadlifted 410 pounds in the span of a few hours. (“1000 pounds,” yeah right.) (980 pounds.)
Here is the Instagram video of Jackman getting his “1000-pound club” t-shirt:
Congratulations, I’m sure.
We asked Gawker’s Rich Juzwiak, a very strong man, to weigh in on Hugh Jackman’s supposed accomplishment:
“I mean, it’s good, but I’m within spitting distance of that squat and bench and I’m not Wolverine. ... I’m trying to think of what I benched last time. It was the bar, which is 35 or 45 depending, two 45s on each side and then finally I added a 10 on each side. 235 or 245. And I’m not at the gym eight hours a day.”
Juzwiak added, “Really disappointed in Hugh!!!!!”
Rich—we all are.
Or are we? Is Hugh Jackman Earth’s weakest man, or is he not? Is he a baby who can lift only little tiny baby weights, or he is a strong man who didn’t try his best simply because he wanted to honor the terms of the entrance ritual to his gym’s “1000-pound club”?
