Words comes from Nerdist that Jessica Chastain has been offered a lead role in the second season of Nic Pizzolatto's HBO anthology drama True Detective.

According to Nerdist's sources, Pizzolatto is interested in a female-lead cast for the show's 2015 season, and while Chastain has been offered a part, she's yet to accept. Chastain is known for being choosy with what roles she takes — remember when she turned down what ended up being a totally thankless role (later played by Rebecca Hall) in Iron Man 3?

So we'll see. Though it should be noted that Chastain recently worked with True Detective season one star Matthew McConaughey in Christopher Nolan's latest portentous thriller, Interstellar. It is not at all difficult to envision McConaughey sidling up to Chastain and trying to convince her to join the project.

If she does take the part, maybe he can give her tips on how to spend 52 minutes saying a bunch of bullshit that sounds like a rumination on our moral turpitude.

Time is a flat circle, etc.

Update: E! is reporting, citing reps for Chastain and HBO, that she "is not doing the series." But that doesn't necessarily mean she wasn't offered a role...
