The BBC just announced that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, our favorite, beautiful crime-solvers, will return to us in Sherlock with a one-off special and a three-episode fourth season. We just have to be patient.

The BBC began teasing their announcement yesterday with a series of weirdo tweets, including one hinting at the return of Jim Moriarty:

And the network finally made its announcement this morning:

In a statement about the show's renewal, Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat said:

"A special, plus a new series of three episodes — it's a record-breaking run! Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John is the very last thing you'd expect."

The one-off special will begin filming in January of 2015, and the series will film later in the year. #221back #notsoonenough #whynotfilmnow? #bringsherlockbacknow #rightnow
