On Tuesday night, Stephen Colbert visited The Late Show With David Letterman for the first time since he agreed to take over the show next year. Colbert was hilarious as usual, delivering his own Top 10 list and, naturally, taking a selfie with Letterman.

According to Colbert, the Top 10 list—"Top Ten Cocktails For Santa"—was submitted to Letterman as a writing sample in 1997 when The Late Show was looking for prospective writers. By the time Colbert and his writing partner Paul Dinello got called back by the The Late Show, their own show Strangers With Candy had been picked up by Comedy Central. Nonetheless, the top 10 list is pure Colbert: witty with a streak of darkness.

In the interview, Colbert also tells some stories about being on vacation with his family and the time an internship interview with Letterman broke up a relationship.
