Steve Carell Is Coming Back To TV, But Only Behind The Camera

Michael Scott is taking a page out of the Mose Schrute playbook, and will be bringing a cop comedy he wrote with his wife Nancy to TBS. Vulture reports that the network just ordered Tribeca to pilot—a half-hour procedural cop comedy not entirely dissimilar from part-time beet loving The Office star Mike Schur's Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Tribeca, despite the name, will be set in Los Angeles at the Really Heinous Crimes Unit (RHCU), and will follow Detective Angie Tribeca, who I can only hope will be played by Christopher Meloni in a mildly convincing Marisk Hargitay wig.

The pilot order for the show also furthers TBS' commitment to working with male comedians and actors (somewhat fitting, since the network's biggest ratings earner is Major League Baseball). Aside from standup based shows Sullivan and Son, Conan, and Pete Holmes, the network is currently airing Men At Work—a half hour comedy created by miniature dreamboat Breckin Meyer, and written on by former Gawker dreamboat Neel Shah (we can only hope an upcoming episode features Shah's tale of the greatest prank ever.)

This drives me crazy about Entertainment reporting and it happens all the time. Could we please show enough respect of "wife Nancy's" half of the pilot to include her last fucking name. Let's just assume that she's a writer in her own right. I have no idea who the Scotts are, but when you write "wife Nancy" instead of "wife Nancy Scott" (assuming) it sounds like her part of the writing process was fallatio and baking cookies.

Fellatio and cookie-baking was a subplot I must missed on The Office. Sounds like something Angela would do, though. Maybe to support her Xanax habit.

I think this is not a problem for spouses of either gender if they have the same last name. So for example if it was "Nancy Carell is writing a new show with her husband Steve" that should also be OK. The key with Hollywood type stuff is they're always going to lead with the person who is more famous, so if it was the wife who was the bigger celebrity I'm sure they'd handle it exactly that way.

I know it's always done, but as a woman I'd be mortified (and either never collaborate with my more accomplished husband or change my name pronto). BTW, I've seen it several times and never have I seen the women's name come first. It's always, "James Hunt and wife Nancy or John Dell and wife Jane." My husband has even commented on how demeaning it is, which takes a lot.

I think my first exposure to Steve Carell was 'Anchorman.' I have watched several of his movies since then. I never got into 'The Office' since I never really cared for its humor. While I enjoyed his performance in Anchorman, I feel like his acting continuously falls flat and is unimpressive. "The Way Way Back" could have been a much better movie if the overbearing boyfriend had been played by a character with more depth. I'm sure he is an intelligent person and will make a great producer. I will not miss his appearance on camera.

he is pretty great in little miss sunshine, but it's not really a comedic role.
