Recently-divorced Blake Shelton and recently-divorced Gwen Stefani are both judges on The Voice—we know this for sure, from advertisements in the subway. But what we aren’t sure about from advertisements in the subway is: are they flirting?

As you might remember, Gwen Stefani spent 2004 bedecked with nameless young Asian women in a supposed celebration of Japanese culture that added up to something more like an awkward parade of racist tropes for which she was widely criticized. Recently, TIME gave her a chance to apologize for, uh, all of that.

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton appeared on the Tonight Show last night—allowing everyone involved to check off "promote this season of The Voice" from their to-do lists—and took part in a lip-sync battle against Jimmy Fallon. Gwen won.
