The New Michael Jackson Song is Actually Really Good
"Love Never Felt So Good" is the new single off of Michael Jackson's upcoming posthumous album Xscape, and unlike basically every other posthumous Michael song it's good enough to remind you of why people loved him in the first place.
The song, which was written and recorded by Jackson and Paul Anka in 1983, glides along on a champagne-smooth groove. It evokes the fluttering disco of 1979's Off the Wall, which is to say that it's basically perfect.
As Vulture's Lindsey Weber points out, this sort of '70s disco sound has returned to radio and party playlists thanks (mostly) to Pharrell, which helps to make "Love Never Felt So Good" feel weirdly contemporary.
There's also a version featuring vocals from Justin Timberlake (and extra production flourishes from Timbaland and Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon) if that compels you.
