Yes, though I'm told by trans friends when I asked how to address it sensitively, that on some level you always have been what you identify with. Now how Hollywood hiring her chose to accept it is their move, but I'll give it the caveat of one woman.
So, what, you want Hollywood to go back in time thirty, forty years and use more female and black directors so that by now they'd be on the list?
No but by pretending that it's no big deal, or simply being dismissive, we're not correcting a problem here either. Maybe the reason a majority of the movies from these directors have failed because they simply don't identify with a majority of viewers.
I'm saying it's simply not been a long enough time. It's taken thirty, forty years for a lot of these guys to make the money that puts them on this list, and in almost all cases it's because lightning struck them once a year during that time. Spike Lee isn't on this list because he doesn't make movies like Star Wars and Jaws. But when he did dip into the blockbuster waters with Inside Man, he grossed 90 million at the box office. But Summer Of Sam isn't going to inspire a line of action figures and religious devotion.
What's the metric? How much they own in assets and in the bank? Or movie grosses? Because I can't believe that Guy Ritchie would even make the top 25 if it were the latter. Tarantino, Nolan, Schumacher? What about Mel Gibson from those crazytown movies?
I believe entire net worth was the metric for this chart, so it is significantly more skewed than "highest paid directors".
Still, I would think Christopher NOlan after two hugely successful (was it 3?) Batmans and Inception.
