Watch Tom Hardy Shut Down a Reporter Who Asked About His Sexuality at TIFF

Remember when Tom Hardy had sex with men? What on earth are you on about?
Saturday, during a Toronto International Film Festival press conference for the upcoming movie Legend, a reporter named Graeme Coleman from the LGBT site Daily Xtra dared to ask Hardy about his sexuality. “In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality,” said Coleman. “But given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous. Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?”
Let the record show that this question is relevant coming from an outlet that specializes in such matters, it’s relevant given the subject matter of Legend, and it’s relevant because of Hardy’s own statements (and subsequent backpedaling) about his sexuality.
Tom Hardy did not think this question was relevant.
“What on earth are you on about?” he asked incredulously.
“I was referring to an interview given to Attitude magazine a few years ago,” responded Coleman. During that 2008 interview, Hardy responded, “Of course I have,” after being asked if he’d ever had sexual relations with other guys. “I’ve played with everything and everyone. But I’m not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality but the gay sex bit does nothing for me,” Hardy continued in 2008. Soon after, a source “close” to him claimed his words were taken out of context. Hardy seems to have echoed that sentiment in 2011 Marie Claire UK, where he finally addressed that 2008 interview. He said his words were “misconstrued,” and the copy went on to read, “He’s irritated his words were taken out of context, but conceded, ‘one thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.’”
All this would point to the fact that it is hard for celebrities to talk about their sexuality. But Tom Hardy wasn’t in the answering mood and countered Coleman’s question with one of his own: “But what is your question?”
“I was wondering if you find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality,” Coleman reiterated.
“I don’t find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality,” said Hardy. “Um, are you asking me about my sexuality?”
“Um...sure,” said Coleman.
“Why?” asked Hardy. (For a quick answer to that question please read every word above this line.)
“Um,” said Coleman.
“Thank you,” said Hardy, cutting him off with the iciness of Joan Crawford.
Man, Tom Hardy is touchy (but not like that...I mean, well who knows).
