In a statement released via E! News this morning, spray-tanned baton Giuliana Rancic announced she’s leaving her longtime post as E! News anchor. She will, however, stay on as a red carpet interviewer and as co-host of Fashion Police, the doomed show on which she made a racist remark earlier this year. Wait what?

Giuliana’s statement reads:

For more than a decade, I was fortunate enough to play a role in the success of E! News and will miss my family at the show. At the same time, I am excited to not only continue as host of two major franchises on E! but also executive produce the aspirational new show Rich in Faith for Oxygen as well as take my wine and clothing lines to the next level. This is such a thrilling time for me and I thank the gang at E! for understanding my desire to embark on this next chapter in my life.

So she’s leaving her highly-visible anchor job to spend more time with...her wine. Hmm.

Giuliana stepped in it earlier this year when she remarked on an episode of Fashion Police that actress Zendaya looked like she smelled like “weed” and “patchouli oil” because of her dreadlocks. Though she apologized for the comment, host Kathy Griffin and co-host Kelly Osbourne quit the show shortly thereafter.

It seems odd that E! would want to keep Giuliana on the show she essentially torpedoed, but Fashion Police is set to return August 31 with Melissa Rivers (daughter of original host Joan) in the driver’s seat. According to Variety, only six episodes of the show will air between August and December. A slow season for fashion law enforcement.

So why is Giuliana really leaving E! News? While there’s no doubt her wine line means a lot to her, it’s not clear that the decision was entirely her choice. She did admit to a health struggle in April, telling People that her cancer-suppressing medication (Giuliana had a double mastectomy in 2011) is keeping her from gaining weight. “I know I’m too thin,” she said. However, in 2012, after signing a three-year deal intended to keep her plastered all over the network until at least the spring of this year, Giuliana was enthusiastic about her past, present, and future at E!: “It’s been an amazing ride, and I’m excited for my journey at E! to continue. I’m extremely proud of the tremendous opportunities E! has given me over the past 10 years, and I’m excited to be part of the network’s exciting future. The best is yet to come.”
