Whoopi Goldberg sits at the edge of the The View desk and looks around an empty studio. "This old place used to seem a lot bigger," she sighs. "And, wait—didn't there used to be other people here?" She tries to remember. "An older one, two blonde ones? Maybe some others?" She shakes her head, laughing gently. "Ah, what am I saying. The quiet really does get to you..."

It was announced on Thursday that Sherri Shepherd is leaving her spot on The View after seven years of taking on hot topics, like how maybe the world is flat. (She never thought about whether it was round or not because she has to think about feeding her family, all right?) Shepherd spoke about her exit in a statement to The Wrap:

"It's been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on. I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and [executive producer] Bill Geddie for giving me the opportunity," Shepherd said in a statement. "I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my 'View' family and my fans for supporting me on this journey."

The announcement comes only a month after Barbara Walters left her spot, and—according to The Wrap—amid rumors that Jenny McCarthy will soon do the same. (Or, be forced to do the same.) Those rumors were recently aided by McCarthy's own tweets on the subject:

(What?) TMZ reports that both Shepherd and McCarthy were fired, along with the show's executive producer:

Our sources say there was a meeting at ABC late Thursday afternoon and they announced Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy were out. Sources tell us executive producer Bill Geddie also will not be coming back.

...

And several sources say there's a real chance Rosie O'Donnell will be coming back. We're also told producers are "very interested" in Laila Ali.

We're also told the show is interested in Ross Mathews and Jesse Palmer.

Ah, isn't that just how life goes. One day, your favorite show The View is perfect and you have 100% no complaints about it, and the next day it's all messed up.

"Hello," shouts Whoopi, alone. She listens for an echo.
