The actors Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced today, one day after their 10-year wedding anniversary, that they are getting divorced. “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple told People in a joint statement. Our condolences to the Afflecks and congratulations to People for getting that exclusive they so desperately wanted.

The soon-to-be-ex-couple’s statement continues:

We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.

While rumors about Jen and Ben’s doomed relationship have been swirling for years (remember that Blake Lively car ride?), they picked up again at the end of May when Radar reported that Ben spent Jen’s birthday alone in Canada without his wedding ring. Gawker predicted then that Bennifer 2 would tie their split announcement to their anniversary.

According to People, Ben and Jen will seek mediation to finalize their divorce.
