The recently resurrected John Belushi biopic has found its frontman. As TheWrap's Jeff Sneider was first to report, Emile Hirsch will be taking on the role, in a casting move that's sure to ruffle feathers.

As THR reported last week, the Warner Brothers film was originally set to be produced and directed by Todd Phillip of The Hangover, but as of last week, WB will be proceeding with it as an indie, and having Steve Conrad, who wrote the script, direct as well.

Conrad quickly began meeting with actors to play Belushi, and Hirsch's name came up as a front runner, along with Workaholics' Adam Devine and Joaquin Phoenix both rumored to be in the running.

Though this isn't the first biopic to tackle Belushi's life, the previous iteration, Wired, was largely boycotted by his family. His widow, Judy Belushi Pisano, is serving as a producer this time around.
