Imagine having to put up with an actor.

Jared Leto, known haircut, is currently playing a reimagined Heath Ledger in whatever Suicide Squad is. You know this, I know this, we all know this because it’s why he got a finally got a haircut. Something you might not know, however, is that because Leto was frequently absent during the film’s early prep, he would send gifts to his cast-mates to prove he was doing his best to remain in-character.

“Gifts,” you might be thinking. “Gifts sound good.”

Not so fast, my friend.

According to E!, who spoke with Suicide Squad actor Adam Beach at the premiere of “Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser (streaming on Crackle July 16),” the gifts were not good:

“He sent [Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it—a live rat,” Adam Beach, who plays Slipnot in the Warner Bros. film, told me last night at the premiere of Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser (streaming on Crackle July 16). “It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter.”

Chill gifts from a chill man. They also got a video and a dead hog:

The cast also received a video and—get ready for it!—a “dead hog.”

“Basically, what he said was, ‘Guys, I can’t be there but I want you to know I’m doing my work as hard as you guys,’” Beach said. “The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real.”

This is real. We are working with Jared Leto, known haircut. He is playing pretend just as hard as the rest of us. He sent us a dead hog and multiple letters.

Ah, to have the privilege of working with an artist!
