The New York Times reports that NBCUniversal television executive Jeff Shell is about to take over Universal Studios. Shell is currently the chairman of NBCUniversal International. Current Universal president Ron Meyers will likely move up the ladder and become vice chairman of NBCUniversal.

Looks like moves are already being made. Current Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson was just blindsided by the fact that he is being let go to make room for Jeff Shell. Despite a few flops, Fogelson largely turned Universal around to make the studio successful in recent months.

It's worth noting that when Ron Meyer came into the Universal Studios president position, the head of Universal Pictures was NOT let go, despite creative duty overlap. Also worth noting that Shell, prior to his time at NBCUniversal was a Comcast exec. Comcast recently purchased NBCUniversal. Interesting.
