Nikki Finke, now in day one zillion of her ongoing battle with Deadline owner Jay Penske, is claiming that she's been locked out of Deadline. Yet... she was somehow able to post to Deadline about being locked out. Interesting.

I am very conflicted by this whole thing. Nikki is insane if she thinks the popularity growth of her site is because people are flocking to her "voice." People go to deadline because it gives extensive industry news quickly and in a simple layout compared to Variety or HR. No one cares about her in-article snark. That being said I respect the fact she did carry and grown the site and Jay Penske is a wannabe media mogul with a UPenn MBA. It is hard to take a side when both parties are detestable.
Oh that's where you're wrong my friend. Deadline IS great at breaking news quickly and effectively, but a major, major reason they get all the intel they do, is because of Nikki's trademark voice. As little as three years ago, Deadline was a place where you could actually—alongside the news—hear about what monsters some execs were, while others were surprisingly pussycats. It wasn't just the story (castings, sales, etc.), it was the story about the people behind the stories. And it was excellent.
Finke may unfortunately make herself the villain in this debacle, but it's not just her sharp reporting skills that helped turn Deadline into what it is today. It was the opinions on the industry NO ONE else was willing to offer that did that.
Completely understand and agree with you. I think it is a much different website than it was (both to its benefit and detriment). If anything (not to inflate you too much after 6 months) but I feel like Defamer is doing a great job at filling that kind of behind the curtain snark. I am sure if Nikki has her own sight it would be a great return to the voice that made the site popular. However, this crap over the past year has been so annoying. People seem to be turned off by this internal squabbling inbetween Nellie's PR reports about the 900th Aaron Kaplan pilot sold this season

Uh, don't a lot of bloggers have the ability to work from home? So couldn't she just have posted it from home? I don't get it.
Nikki only works from home—and she's currently on vacation. She meant she was locked out of the site. Not the physical office.
Though now I am crying laughing imagining a) reclusive Nikki in the 75 degree California sunshine, and b) Nikki being physically barred from the Penske offices.
I care about this. Truly I do. I'm very happy this has been brought to my attention.
The fact that my entire weekend is now ruined is irrelevant, obviously. I shall remain riveted to Gawker for hourly updates until Monday morning...
