In a recent interview with VH1, The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes shared a few behind-the-scenes facts about the movie to celebrate its tenth anniversary. Among those facts (the bird scene almost didn't happen, Facebook played a big role in its success, Ryan Gosling is patiently waiting to re-do the movie IRL with you, etc.) was a bombshell: our two love babies hated each other the whole time!

Though Gosling and Rachel McAdams went on to date for years after filming The Notebook, Cassavetes says Gosling (quite rudely, it seems!) originally wanted her off of the film altogether:

Maybe I'm not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and there's 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, "Nick come here." And he's doing a scene with Rachel and he says, "Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?" I said, "What?" He says, "I can't. I can't do it with her. I'm just not getting anything from this."

"Maybe I'm not supposed to tell this story, but I do want to ruin the life of the former high school girlfriend whose posts you still see on Facebook all the time, so." Cassavetes went on about how he attempted to fix the situation:

We went into a room with a producer; they started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out. At that point I was smoking cigarettes. I smoked a cigarette and everybody came out like, "All right let's do this." And it got better after that, you know? They had it out… I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open. The rest of the film wasn't smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.

When did the love start, though? And more importantly: who will play Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in the romantic comedy about filming The Notebook? Dane DeHaan and Carey Mulligan? Spiderman and Emma Stone? Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams again? You and Ryan? Me and Ryan? Me and Benedict Cumberbatch? Me and Idris Elba?

Cassavetes has been sitting on this for ten years, we shouldn't have to wait any longer!
