The BAFTA nominations were announced early Wednesday and Gravity leads the pack with 12 nominations, followed by 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle with 10 each. The nominees for best picture are 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity, and Philomena.

The Producers Guild of America announced on Thursday the 10 films whose producers are nominated for the PGA's Darryl F. Zanuck producer of the year award: 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Blue Jasmine, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Gravity, Her, Nebraska, Saving Mr. Banks and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Despite opening to a strong $26 million this weekend, the Tom Hanks starrer Captain Phillips has found itself in hot water: The real crew from the Maersk Alabama that was taken by Somali pirates state that the film account of their hijacking was less based on a true story and far more an account of revisionist historical fiction.
