On the radio show Rove & Sam this morning, Chris Martin offered a peek into his old life with Gwyneth Paltrow, the woman from whom he “consciously uncoupled” (“consciously uncoupled”) last year. He made it sound bad.

“A few years ago I was in a low place in my life and was feeling kind of down and confused,” Martin revealed during the show, according to Us Weekly. “Some friends gave me a book called Man’s Search for Meaning, and a poem called ‘The Guest House’ by an Afghanistani poet...and those two things started me off on this whole journey that’s ended up a few years later now where I just feel so happy to be alive.”

Man’s Search for Meaning, or ...trotzdem Ja zum Leben sagen: Ein Psychologe erlebt das Konzentrationslager, is a famous psychology text in which the author, Viktor Frankl, chronicles his experiences being imprisoned in Auschwitz and other concentration camps during the Holocaust.

Chris Martin, what are you saying?

Something rude, it seems like.
