Meryl Streep Thinks Academy Snubbed Emma Thompson
Meryl Streep was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Monday morning discussing her 18th Academy Award Nomination when she announced her friend Emma Thompson was "shockingly" left off the list of nominees for her work in Saving Mr. Banks.
"I was really shocked. And I wrote her a long, heartfelt email saying how bad I felt," Streep told DeGeneres. "And she wrote me back and said, 'Good.'"
Streep also alluded to lots of "surprises and injustices" in the nominations, when DeGeneres—this year's Oscars host—mentioned Tom Hanks also wasn't nominated. Surprises, maybe. Injustices? Hardly. There are many injustices occurring in Hollywood each day and I can promise Emma Thompson getting snubbed isn't one of them.
